When I was growing up, we always made and frosted sugar cookies on Valentines Day. One year my brother thought he would make cookies for all these girls that he liked (he was in junior high or just starting high school). So mom helped him decorate the cookies and sent him off to school. When he got to school, he chickened out and instead of giving them away, he took the cookies with him to a basketball tournament and ate them all himself. Well, I am sure his teammates helped out.
Another memory of Valentines Day is Martha Bennett. She was our business teacher and taught us typing. She was a lot of fun. Behind her back we called her "Aunt Martha." So one year for Valentines we made her a big sugar cookie and wrote "Aunt Martha" on it. Our secret was out and she was a good sport about it.
For several years I continued the tradition of making sugar cookies at the holiday too. I taught my

niece Ms. C to make sugar cookies. In this picture she is about 4 years old. She came over to my apartment to make cookies. She got quite proficient. One time I forgot to flour the cookie cutter. She said, "That's okay. We all make mistakes." What great wisdom for life. We do all make mistakes-- but we can start over and begin again. As Anne of Green Gables says, "today is a brand new day with no mistakes in

it."
