Heidi's Article

My friend Heidi has an article published in this July Ensign (magazine for members of the LDS church). It is an inspiring story about her young son, smashed fingers and a man who brings a screwdriver to church. I think you'll like it. You can download a copy here

This I Believe...

There is a recurring segment on National Public Radio (NPR) entitled “This I Believe,” During segment, Brian McConnachie made the following statement:

Unless your beliefs are limited to universals like where north is, and even that gets relative, you had better prepare yourself, if you are even vaguely open minded, for radical confusion, where in time every notion you have ever believed will be legitimately stood on it’s head.”

This made me think about eternal gospel truths that I believe and know to be true-- and which will never be stood on “their head.” One of these truths that I believe is this: the power of the atonement of Jesus Christ is not just for our sins and transgressions. The atonement can change our hearts, take away the pain, sorrow, disappointment, etc. The Savior has the power to heal each of us. Whether our needs are physical, emotional, spiritual, or otherwise, He can heal us. But, we must first come unto Him. When we exercise faith, coupled with action, we will be blessed. It is because of His infinite atonement that the Savior will know exactly how to succor us, individually, according to our needs (Alma 7:11-12).

Hooky Day in SLC

Today my nephew had his monthly doctor's appointment at Primary Children's Medical Center. I played hooky for the day and spent it with my sister and her two kids. After 2 1/2 hours at the hospital we went to the Lion House Pantry and ate lunch. Then we took a tour of the Beehive House. We also walked around Temple Square. My niece, at age 6, is "Miss Photographer" and she had fun snapping pictures. She actually does a good job at it too. This last year is the first time I am in any family photos because she takes them!
It was a warm, beautiful, hooky day.

My First Textbook

This week I received a copy of the first textbook with my name on the cover! Wow. Some days it seems like I was just a student and here I am the professor with a name on a textbook. Thanks to Jim McKenzie at Ball State who invited me to co-author. I feel it a great privilege and honor to work with him and Brad Neiger on this project.
